If you sustain a physical injury that impedes your ability to perform the inherent duties of you role, you are required to report this information to the QPS. Information shared with your Self Refer physiotherapist is confidential and will not be disclosed to the QPS.

If you have a problem with pain or movement that is directly related to work (happened while at work, travelling to or from work, on a scheduled break or as a direct result of doing your work) you should continue to report it as a workplace injury through the QPS Injury incident notification system (IINRS).

If you sustain an injury you should seek advice from your GP, Injury Management or Health & Safety rep, and you can lodge with WorkCover either for notification purposes only or to make a claim.

If you require assistance with a Workcover claim, you can contact your: GP, Union, your Injury Management Advisor, Health & Safety rep or direct supervisor.

How SelfRefer works?

If you are a current QPS employee, you are entitled to 3 sessions each Financial Year through the SelfRefer program.

These 3 sessions are;

• Free of charge to you (QPS funds these sessions)

• Private, confidential and external to the QPS

• With your choice of vetted service provider, experienced in providing support to First Responers

How does the program work?

The Queensland Police Service has partnered with specially trained and regulated practitioners across the state to deliver external, confidential support to all employees.

These providers have undergone a stringent procurement and vetting process to ensure that they have specific knowledge and experience in supporting First Responders and are committed to prioritising QPS employees for appointments.

Accessing these services is simple! Let us walk you through the process.

  1. From our list of providers, choose a provider that suits your needs and follow their relevant instructions on how to make your appointment.
  2. When attending your appointment (either in-person or via telehealth) you will need to have your valid, current QPS ID or Badge.
  3. The provider will sight your registration number, only for the purposes of confirming that you are a current QPS employee as part of their client onboarding mechanisms to ensure payment by the QPS.
  4. The provider will anonymise your information by providing the QPS an invoice, with a de-identified number for the invoice, such as: QPS1002 (which will be recurring for all subsequent sessions).
  5. The only information that providers will supply to the QPS on the invoice:
    • De-identified invoice number (e.g. QPS1002)
    • Number of sessions ‘QPS1002’ has attended
    • The Provider’s details
  6. The SelfRefer Manager will receive the invoice and approve payment to the Provider.
  7. That’s it! You’re on you way to accessing confidential, external support at no cost to you for up to three sessions.
